The moment ends and ATINY carries it with them like something they’ll replay forever. You move with the crowd at first, but not far enough to lose sight of him.

Mingi is still working what’s left of the line, still smiling, still leaning in like every girl matters in that moment. “You’re my favorite girl, okay?” he says again, staring into their eyes, easy, practiced. They react the same way every time.

Breathless.

Flustered.

Completely folded by him.

Some of them bark loud enough to make the entire table laugh while Mingi just leans back into the attention like he was built for it.

Honestly?

Watching him work a room this effortlessly is dangerously attractive.

You keep replaying his words in your head.

Don’t act like ATINY after this.

Don’t look at me like I’m something you watch.

You can’t help but watch him work. It’s amazing to see the effect he has on Atiny. How all the members have Atiny in a chokehold.

You’re not losing yourself in him.

You’re studying him.

Mingi can feel you’re watching him. It starts small with a glance that lingers a second too long. Then again. Each time he looks up, you’re still there, still locked on him, failing at not watching him as a fan. You’re not softening, not playing into anything. You don’t wave or smile at him. You just hold his gaze and then your staring game turns into something real.

He loses track of the next few fans the second his attention drifts back to you. Realizing you’re a distraction, you look away and walk around to the other side of the room where neither one of you could see each other.

Well that’s that.

“Excuse me,” someone says, stepping up to you. “Can you come with me?” You don’t ask why… you already know. They guide you to what appears to be a conference room. “Please make yourself comfortable,” they say, “Mr. Song will be with you shortly”

You see there’s a bar set up and you help yourself to two shots of whiskey because you’re on edge. You can hear the door open behind you and footsteps approaching.

When you turn and step in front of him, you can feel the heated tension between you. He’s not smiling the same way. “You stayed,” he says, voice lower now. “I meant what I said Mingi. I want you to mean it when you call me your favorite girl.” His eyes move over you again, slower this time, taking in how cool and calm you were standing there so sure of yourself.

This close to him and you still haven’t kissed him once. Sick.

“mm… you’re serious.”

“I told you I was.”

He leans in slightly, to close the distance between you. “Most people don’t say things like that and stand on it,” he says, quieter now. “You said you want me to mean it when I call you my favorite girl… that you want a real shot, not just fan service.”

You hold his gaze.

You really want to attack his bottom lip so bad. He’s so close.

“I didn’t say that to take it back,” you say. “I know what you do with everyone else… I want to see what it feels like when you mean it with me.”

That makes him pause.

His eyes stay on yours a second longer than they should, like he’s checking for hesitation, for nerves, for anything that would let him write you off as a woman not right in her mind.

He doesn’t find it.

“ya…” he exhales, low, almost under his breath. “You’re not acting like a fan at all.” There’s a little snark in the way he says it, less amused, more aware. “You told me not to,” you say with a tinge of attitude. “So I didn’t.”

Mingi lets out another laugh. “oh Noona, I saw you watching me.” He shakes his head and his laugh turns into a smile. “Yes but,” you exclaimed “I was observing you and the others’ work. I noticed that it distracted you and I moved.”

Another pause settles in, but this one holds weight. His jaw tightens slightly, not in tension, just in thought, like he’s recalibrating what he expected this to be versus what it actually is.

You hate how much this suddenly matters to you. Walking away right now would probably be the smart thing to do.

“You’re making me think about this differently,” he says, voice quieter now. “If we do this,” he says, “it’s not simple. You understand that, right?” Sucking your teeth you say, “I do.” His eyes narrow slightly, focused. “no pictures. no posting. no friends talking,” he continues. “I don’t need Dispatch in my business, and you don’t need your name attached to mine like that.” “I’m not here for that,” you say. “I don’t need attention. I need intention.”

That shifts something in him again. “Hmm…,” he hums. “Then how?”

“You give me a way that makes sense for you,” you say, “something clean, no chasing, no weird timing, no guessing.”

He studies you for a moment longer. “You trust me to set it up?” “I trust you to protect your reputation,” you say, “and I trust myself not to ruin it.”

He nods once, slower this time. “Okay,” he says, “then we do it like that.”

Mingi glances at the same staff member who steps closer, already understanding their mission. “Leave your info,” he says quietly, not looking away from you, “they’ll get it to me.”

While you and staff talk, he leans in just slightly, close enough that his voice doesn’t carry. “You don’t come here again looking at me like that,” he adds, “not in public.” Your breath shifts, just enough for him to notice. “Then where do I look at you like this?” That almost pulls a smile out of him.

Almost.

“When I tell you,” he whispers.

There it is.

You finish speaking with staff and you thank them. He steps back, but the shift doesn’t leave. “Go,” he says “before the members start asking questions about being back here with me.”

You hold his gaze one more second. Waving goodbye you say, “See you.” As you walk away you hear him reply, “Annyeong Noona.”

When you’re back on the event floor, you see Mingi’s with the last Atiny of the night. As you’re walking past them you can hear him say to her, almost like he intentionally meant for you to hear, “you’re my favorite girl.”

Sigh. Don’t look back at him girl, just leave.

He watches you walk away.
